A Helldivers 2 squad can bring impressive equipment and still struggle if nobody agrees on the plan. The useful question before deployment is what each player will contribute when the mission becomes messy. For a new PS5 group, a small shared plan is easier to follow than a long list of ideal tactics remembered by only one person.
Set expectations before joining
PlayStation lists Helldivers 2 as an online game for up to four players, with PS Plus required on PS5. Friendly fire is part of its combat. Make sure everyone understands those conditions before buying it for a planned evening, especially if someone expected local multiplayer on a single television.
Agree on whether the session is for learning, completing a specific objective, or collecting resources. Those priorities can lead to different choices on the ground. A player rushing toward extraction and a player exploring every detour may both have sensible goals; the problem is discovering the disagreement after landing.
Build complementary loadouts
Sony's beginner guide groups stratagems into tools such as orbital support, air support, backpacks, support weapons, and defenses. Before confirming a loadout, ask which problems the team can already solve and which remain uncovered.
One player might prioritize dealing with a dangerous target, another controlling a crowded approach, and another keeping a useful support option available. These are planning roles, not permanent character classes. Avoid assigning a rigid job that makes someone stop paying attention to the rest of the fight.
Try a new stratagem in a manageable mission before building the entire plan around it. Learn where it lands, what its warning looks like, and what teammates need to do when you call it. A powerful tool used without warning can create another problem for the squad.
Use short, actionable calls
- Name the direction or landmark before describing the threat.
- Announce a dangerous incoming strike before teammates enter its area.
- Say when you are reloading, retreating, or unable to cover an approach.
- Confirm the next objective before the group splits.
Long explanations compete with the information players need immediately. Save detailed loadout discussions for a calmer moment. If voice chat is unavailable, agree beforehand on how you will use the game's communication tools, and make the plan simple enough to follow visually.
Recover resources without losing the mission
The official beginner guide explains that carried samples drop when a Helldiver dies and can be recovered. That makes a fallen location worth assessing, but it does not mean the entire squad should rush into the same danger at once. First identify what caused the death and whether the area is now manageable.
When the main objective is complete, compare the benefit of a detour with the resources and time it will consume. A clear decision to leave is better than a slow, accidental retreat in which everyone follows a different route. Pick a meeting point and keep the group informed when the plan changes.
Spend after you understand your preferences
Warbonds offer unlocks, and the official guide says unlocked Warbonds do not expire. You do not need to treat every session as a race to complete the newest rewards. Spend with a specific equipment goal in mind and verify what the current reward track actually contains.
After a mission, discuss one useful adjustment: a missing tool, a poorly communicated strike, or a route that split the team. For another cooperative structure, compare Space Marine 2's modes. Different games reward different teamwork habits; a good squad is willing to adapt its routine.
